The Shake Ups are a midwestern-based power-pop music collective formed in 2005. The band blends co-ed vocals, bouncy melodies and infectious energy into a refreshingly charming sound. The Shake Ups are comprised of Patrick O’Connor (vocals, guitars), Savannah O’Connor (keyboards, vocals), Lee Cherolis (bass), Luisanna Rodriguez (vocals, percussion), Ed Cho (guitars), Bitsy McCann (vocals, percussion), and Steve Hinckley (drums). The Shake Ups have independently released several full-length albums on their own Gelatinous Productions imprint alongside projects with indie labels Blindspot and Not Lame. The Shake Ups have performed at San Diego’s legendary House of Blues and at events such as the International Pop Overthrow Festival and Blitzkrieg Bash, among others. The Shake Ups continue to build on their reputation as a primary force in the independent music community.
The band initiated a family-friendly side project in the summer of 2013, The Shake Ups In Ponyville, performing original music inspired by television series and pop culture phenomenon My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The Shake Ups In Ponyville released a self-titled EP in the summer of 2013, followed by a debut full-length, Mane Event, that fall. The band has since appeared at fan events (the MLP Fair, Ponycon, Ciderfest) and major conventions (GenCon, Wizard World, Comic Con) across the U.S. With their fanbase growing exponentially (the band’s Youtube channel recently surpassed 145,000 views), The Shake Ups In Ponyville released their second album, Pony Power Pop, in late 2014, which included their most popular single to date, “Princess of the Night.” A third full-length, Rock Candy, followed at the tail-end of 2015, garnering rave reviews from both pop culture enthusiasts and the indie music echelon.
Following a limited edition tribute to the Fab Four, ‘The Shake Ups Play The Beatles,’ the band returned in the spring of 2017 with a new original project inspired by the award winning animated series, Steven Universe. Entitled ‘The Shake Ups In Beach City,’ the latest album fuses the band’s signature power-pop stylings with elements of surf rock and new wave across a sparkling new collection of family-friendly musical gems.
