PopCon Podcast Awards Criteria and Submission Process

We welcome all creators of podcasts to submit their work for our annual awards ceremony.  In our first year, we limited the scope of the awards to only podcasts produced in Indiana.  Now that we have our feet beneath us, that is no longer a criterion.

Please find submission criteria below:

  • Must have published a minimum of ten episodes.
  • Content to be submitted should be from the last 12 months (specific timeframes are not exact in this, we trust those submitting that the content is recent).
  • The submission audio must be between 5 minutes and 15 minutes (again, we will not be strict, but please do try and fit in this range as best as possible).
  • Audio submission recording should include:
    • Names of producers/hosts.
    • Name of the podcast
    • Where you are located
    • Brief synopsis of your podcast (elevator pitch)
    • Description of what we are about to hear
    • Either of the following:
      • A segment of a single episode
      • A compilation of highlights from one or more episodes
    • The intro and outro of the podcast (only if you wish to apply for that artistic award)

As part of the application process we will need:

  • Contact information
  • Genre category your podcast best fits
  • Audio Submission
  • Permission to publish your submission
  • Permission to use audio from your submission during the awards ceremony as necessary

Available Categories for entry:

Comedy Pop-Culture Audio Drama/Fiction News
True Crime Education LGBT Mature
Sports TV/Film Art/Music Religion
Food and Beverage Tech and Business Comics Family
Gaming Sci Fi/Fantasy Miscellaneous

Awards to win:

  • Smithie Award: Best-of chosen by fellow podcasters
  • Audience Award: Best-of chosen by general audience
  • Category Award: Chosen by independent PopCon Podcast Awards judges
    • Each category will have 3 to 5 finalists. (We reserve the right to combine any categories together for the sake of less-applied-for category’s competition). Category Finalists will be announced before the show.
  • Technical and Artistic Awards:
    • Intro and Outro
    • Editing and Mixing
    • Sound/Special Effects

Submissions must be completed by April 30th at Midnight EST.
